Press Release | USKRG Supports efforts for truth and justice for Korean adoptees:

URGENT Call for Action from the Korean Truth and Reconciliation Commission

USKRG stands firmly with Korean adoptee rights organizations in their joint statement regarding the recent findings of the Korean Truth and Reconciliation Commission. We commend the commission for its historic recognition of the cases of 56 adoptees and emphasize the importance of addressing all remaining cases.

“The journey for truth and justice is vital for adoptees who seek to understand their origins,” says USKRG co-founder Yuh Koppel. “Many face challenges due to incomplete or inaccurate records, permanently separating them from their biological identity and heritage.”

USKRG advocates for the responsibility of adoption agencies and relevant authorities to ensure transparency and accountability in adoption processes. This burden lies unequivocally with adoption agencies, the Korean state, and the receiving countries. USKRG believes that upholding international legal standards is crucial for providing clarity and justice to all adoptees.

Aligned with the joint statement, USKRG supports the call for answers and recognition for all 367 adoptees. Recognizing the time-sensitive nature of the commission’s mandate, we encourage continued efforts to address each case comprehensively. A fundamental principle in the U.S. Army is "Leave no one behind." We request that none of the 311 cases be overlooked; all must be fully addressed without neglect. If necessary, we support the establishment of a third Truth and Reconciliation Commission to ensure thorough investigation and resolution.

We stand united in advocating for the rights of all Korean adoptees and encourage the Korean government to continue its commitments to transparency and justice.
